Paddon Direct Team Green |
 |
For a team that has only been contesting the New Zealand Rally Championship
for four short seasons, Team Green New Zealand has maybe one of the best results
records ever.
Having guided team driver Hayden Paddon to second place in the New Zealand Rally Championship
by the narrowest of margins in 2007, the team went one better in 2008, sealing both the drivers
and co-drivers overall titles with a round to spare and ensuring Mitsubishi was installed as
Manufacturers Champion.
To underline their dominance, the team returned to win both overall 2009 titles, in the process
winning 4 of the 5 championship rounds, the only 'blemish' on their record being a second placing
on the first rally of the season.
As if this programme wasn't tough enough, the team also took on an Asia Pacific Championship
programme for the Pacific Cup on rounds in New Caledonia, Queensland and Whangarei, tying up the
title of 2009 FIA Pacific Cup Champions on the New Zealand round.
To finish the season in true style the team provided Hayden with a perfect car for WRC Rally
Australia, where he not only finished first in the Group N production class and 9th overall, but
most importantly as winner of the prestigious Pirelli Star Driver scholarship.
Ironically the latter title may see Team Green less busy in the 2010 season, as the PSD scholarship
provides Hayden with a 6 round WRC programme as part of a professional production car team, though
plans are afoot that may well see Team Green still contest a number of rallies in New Zealand.
