The Vicarage Lane group of companies was founded in April 2002, when UK based Kiwi director John Kennard established Vicarage Lane Wines Limited , a company based around a new vineyard venture in the Cloudy Bay district of Marlborough, New Zealand, home to some of the worlds finest wines.
During 2003 a half share in the original company was sold to established Christchurch winemakers Brent and Shirley Rawstron, a move aimed at giving the fledgling company greater depth and knowledge of the wine industry, plus equity to allow acquisition of further vineyard space. Brent Rawstron was also elected a director.
The group has also been expanded to include Vicarage Lane Marketing Limited, a sister company specialising in the export of New Zealand wines and a diverse range of New Zealand’s natural produce.
This company, co-owned by Vicarage Lane Wines share holders and a group of Scandanavian business people, will initially market wines from Vicarage Lane and associated vineyards to north eastern European countries, including Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. It will also look at expanding niche markets for other New Zealand produce in this area.
