Vicarage Lane's 2008 Sauvignon Blanc crop, like most in Marlborough, was machine harvested in the second week of April, yielding 137 tonnes of fruit.
As the plants in the St Leonard’s Road vineyard are of two different ages, the fruit tends to reach maturity at slightly different times, so the crop was again harvested in two batches to obtain the optimum flavours from each.
The harvested fruit was then de-stemmed and pressed at Spring Creek Vintners, just a few kilometres from the vineyard, producing 110,000 litres of juice which has been crafted into two batches of Vicarage Lane's 2008 Sauvignon Blanc under the watchful eye of renowned New Zealand winemaker Alan McCorkindale.
Initial bottling of the finished wine took place in late June, and after rigorous export testing to ensure the wine met New Zealand's high export standards, the first export shipment was sent to Finland in July.
