3.9.2008 Spring Fertiliser Programme Begins.

Having taken soil samples early last month from all the blocks, which have been analyised to check mineral and nutrient content, we have today started our spring fertiliser programme.

By using exact quantities to suit the soil and the plants in a block, we ensure the minimum leaching of fertiliser into the eco-system.

This is done by blending a range of different fertilisers to suit each block, mixing them with water in a tanker and evenly spreading the resulting thick slurry over the ground in the block.

The spread fertiliser is then washed into the soil by subsequent rains, which, as it is raining again today, won't take too long!

2.9.2008 Wet Winter Continues.

Marlborough's wet winter is continuing unabated, with more rain predicted in the next few days.

To date both July and August have seen rainfall of more than 230% of the monthly average, figures that are higher than any since the mid 1920's.

While local streams have frequently been running bank to bank, Vicarage Lane has been fortunate in that it's vineyard blocks are in slightly elevated areas and all are free of flooding with winters maintenance work continuing on schedule.

1.9.2008 Double For Team Green at WRC Rally NZ.

Vicarage Lane supported rally driver Hayden Paddon has scooped the double at New Zealand's round of the World Rally Championship held in the Waikato this weekend.

The 21 year has won the prestigious Woolf Whittaker Trophy for finishing as first New Zealander in the field of over 60 cars, and in doing so has become the youngest driver to win the New Zealand Rally Championship, wrapping up the title with a round to spare.

He also finished 4th in a full house field of 28 drivers in the Production World Championship class, beating a host of drivers from around the world, all with huge experience of this very competitive class compared to his own.

Hayden's co-driver, Vicarage Lane partner John Kennard, described the double as a fantastic achievement which was the highlight of Hayden's career to date, but predicted we will see a lot more of these type of results from the youngster on the world stage in the future.
